Assets

From humble beginnings ...

In 2006, a non-profit corporation was formed to support the operation and mission of The Camphill School. Named after the creek that gives the School’s Children’s Village its name, the Beaver Run Foundation role is threefold:
  • To encourage and motivate the making of gifts and donations by deed, will, or otherwise, for the advancement, promotion, extension and maintenance of the various causes and objects fostered by The Camphill School, Inc.
  • Invest the money it raises to establish a fund to benefit the general purposes of The Camphill School, Inc.
  • Hold title to and manage property that is acquired by the corporation or donated for the benefit of Camphill Special School, Inc.

... To bold ambitions

The Beaver Run Foundation currently has assets of approximately $3 million and disbursed funds totaling $30,000 to The Camphill School in the last fiscal year. As the size of the Foundation’s assets increases it will play an ever larger role in:
  • ensuring that more of the children who need our school will have the funds to attend
  • continuing to deepen the skills and abilities of new generations of staff members
  • providing support to retired coworkers, enabling them to continue living on campus as valued members of the school community

Investment Philosophy

A small portion of the investment portfolio is dedicated to supporting organizations engaged in curative education and social therapy through carefully selected loans. Thus the Foundation is also able to invest in spreading the mission of The Camphill School through the growth of like-minded organizations, and to provide a financial return from this activity that benefits our own school community. This is truly socially responsible investment!

The Camphill School

For 50 years, The Camphill School has recognized the dignity of every child, transforming their lives and the lives of their family members. As the only Waldorf school for children with special needs in the United States and the only Camphill community for children in North America, the School weaves practical, social, and artistic threads into every academic subject, while also offering appropriate conventional and innovative therapies. This model has enabled hundreds of children and their families to face and overcome the often overwhelming challenges of intellectual or developmental disabilities.

Ways to Give

Planned Giving

We'll ensure your wishes are followed and that your generosity makes a significant difference to the School. A planned gift ensures the strength of your support can become a long-lasting legacy. Often, such gifts come in the form of bequests, gifts of life insurance or IRAs – but planned gifts can also derive from material possessions, such as valuable art. The Foundation is set up to receive:
  • Bequests
  • Marketable securities
  • Real estate
  • Life insurance policies
  • Tangible personal property
  • Natural resources
  • Partnership interests

  • Another of the Foundation's funds
  • Another mutually agreed upon purpose

Recognition

All bequests and planned gifts will be included in the honor roll of the Pietzner Society, if you so choose.

Numerous opportunities for public recognition are available. Working with staff at the School, we'll develop the most appropriate naming opportunity for your planned gift or bequest.

Meet Bill and Betsy Herman

Bill and Betsy Herman brought their daughter Sarah Jane to The Camphill School in 1976, and have been staunch and generous supporters ever since. As chairs of the Society, they included The Camphill School in their estate plans. Betsy shares this story that shows why she and Bill are members of the Pietzner Society:
While on a walk up the hill at Beaver Run, Ursel Pietzner mentioned to my husband that if we could no longer afford to pay tuition (then very modest), Sarah would nonetheless continue to be cared for and educated at Beaver Run. For us, that single experience opened up a lifetime of active Board membership in the School, the Camphill Foundation, and the Camphill Association, all dedicated to enabling and perpetuating the selfless attitude so simply and matter-of-factly stated by Ursel so many years ago.
